Rick Takahashi

Rick Takahashi has been tying flies since the age of eight years old. “After taking apart his first fly (Royal Coachman) and seeing the hackle unwind, I was hooked on fly tying. I am one of those individuals who enjoys tying as much as fishing.” Rick has exhibited his talent and knowledge in local and regional venues, has had his illustrations and articles published in Fly Fisherman Magazine and web site. His art has been used for the Federation of Fly Fisherman Conclave and fly displays. My goal is to share with others, and to help others come to know the wonders of fly fishing.

Phil Iwane

Fly tying and fly fishing is a passion that I love to share with people of a like passion. Being artistic by nature, I view each fly I tie as a piece of art. Fly tying and fly fishing is a Zen-like experience. Nothing is so rewarding as tying your own flies, selecting the correct fly for the water and conditions that you are fishing, presenting your fly, watching the fish take it, fighting it, landing it and then releasing it. As a fly tier, I have tied hundreds of patterns but now have narrowed it down to flies that catch fish. Umpqua Feather Merchants have selected my Iwan-e-Dun Parachute and Thorax extended body mayfly series and I will be showing you how to tie it.

Steve Maldonado

I have taken my knowledge of Bass Fishing “which a lot of it is being able to really read the water”. And pursued Fly Fishing with the same passion, as where one is always learning something new I like the challenge as it keeps me constantly trying to improve my game. I believe also that tying my own flies helps me be a little more in touch and make me more interested in entomology and what is going on underwater and trying match my flies as close as I possibly can. Now my focus is on trout flies as now that I predominantly fish rivers, with Big Streamers for Big Trout is what I like to tie. I have found it very rewarding sharing my patterns and techniques with other people and sharing my knowledge of fishing.

Dave Mosnik

Born and raised in Colorado, my Dad taught me to fly fish at an early age. A family relative taught me fly tying at age twelve. I have been fly fishing from a float tube over 20 years. I enjoy teaching fly tying, fly fishing and fishing from a float tube. As a veteran, I became involved with Platte Rivers Veterans Fly Fishing and Project Healing Waters- Denver organizations. I host several trips a year for veterans from both programs at private warm water lakes in Hygiene and private trout lakes at Red Feather Lakes. I also serve on the Board of Directors for Red Feather Storage and Irrigation, managers of the private lakes. I find float tube fishing beneficial physically and very therapeutic as well as a successful way of catching fish. I am always willing to share my knowledge of float tube fishing with other anglers.

Outdoor Buddies

Outdoor Buddies mission is to provide opportunities, through a volunteer organization, for those who have been deprived of enjoying outdoor experiences. The focus is on those who are mobility-disabled, at-risk youth, and youth groups. The opportunities are available to all, with no cost (other than personal expenses) and no discrimination due to race, color, creed, religion, sex, or family status. We endorse the principle that wildlife and the environment are to be protected, preserved and managed for the benefit of all people.
